The
Mayor of Teulada Moraira, Carlos Linares, together with the Councillor
for International Residents, Laura Hillstead, had a working meeting in
Alicante with the British Ambassador, Mr. Simon Manley CMG. Also present
in the meeting were the British Consul, Sarah-Jane Morris and the Vice-Consul, Lloyd Milen.
Teulada
Moraira belongs to the “Top Ten Towns” network, which unites the main
municipalities of the province of Alicante with the highest number of
British people registered on the municipal register (padrón).
In
this working meeting, the Ambassador showed his utmost interest in and
commitment to all actions aimed at facilitating the integration of
British citizens in our town. Mr. Manley took the opportunity to
emphasize the importance of all British citizens being registered on the
municipal register (padrón) in the place in which they live, in order
to be able to have access to all of the services offered there, and to
be kept informed of the customs and obligations which arise both in the
town and in other spheres.
One
action which stood out in particular was that of driving forward a
campaign, together with the Consulate, to encourage people to register
on the municipal register (padrón) and information points for residents
where procedures can be sped up, in any of the resident population’s
languages.
Another
of the points which were discussed in the meeting was the launch of a
“Voluntary Language Service” as a way of interaction for administrative,
tourist and service matters.
Linares
quoted Teulada Moraira, which has a specific Council Department set up
to deal with international residents as an example. In addition, he also
expressed his total agreement in carrying out a greater number of
actions together, with the goal of facilitating municipal information to
British citizens and to residents in general.
